Claire Ellul has a first degree in Electrical Engineering and had ten years’ experience as an Information Technology and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) consultant before moving into academia. Her research interests include 3D GIS, and in particular the identification and rapid querying of topological relationships between objects in 3D (are objects above, next to, inside each other) within spatial databases. Interests also include applications of 3D GIS, and in particular the process of navigation within buildings and the built environment. Other interests include databases and spatial databases, dissemination of spatial data in a multi-user environment and GIS algorithm design and development. She also teaches principles of databases and spatial databases at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
