Stephen J. Shaw BA (Hons), PG DipTP, MRTPI, FCIT, FILT, FRGS is Senior Lecturer in Transport and Regeneration and Director of the Transport Research and Consultancy centre (TRaC) at London Metropolitan University. Following a previous career in urban planning and regeneration, he has published a range of books and articles on urban landscapes, historic environments and cultural tourism, especially in relation to social ex/inclusion. His research interests relate, in particular, to the social significance of the public realm in disadvantaged areas. He has particular expertise in the development of leisure and tourism in disadvantaged urban areas and in social exclusion/ inclusion with regard to public transport and access to public spaces. In his previous career he worked as a Chartered Town Planner specialising in airport development and urban regeneration.
